About Jim

Jimmy H. Hammock, Jr., holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Georgia State University.  Prior to serving in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he was a Probation Officer for the State of Georgia from 1986 to 1989.  In 1989, he received an appointment as Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) working violent crimes of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice).

 

Mr. Hammock entered on duty with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in September 1996.  Upon graduating the FBI Academy, Mr. Hammock was assigned to the Washington Field Office.  Within one year, Mr. Hammock competed and won positions as a FBI Firearms Instructor and a SWAT Operator/Sniper.  While in the field, Mr. Hammock was assigned to a VCMO (Violent Crime Major Offender) squad and the case agent on a variety of investigative matters including Crimes on Government Reservations, Crimes Against Children, and drugs (DEA HIDTA).  Mr. Hammock participated in numerous major case investigations during his tenure at the Washington Field Office to include:  homicides at the Lorton Reformatory, Eric Rudolph (CentBomb), Robert Hansen spy investigation, Columbine (Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold), Amerithrax (Dr. Bruce Ivens), SnipeMur (DC snipers Malvo and Muhammed), Dwight Watson (U.S. Capitol bomber).

 

In 2005, Mr. Hammock was promoted to the FBI Academy, Training Division.  As an instructor he taught both new agents and law enforcement executives attending the FBI National Academy.  His primary teaching subjects were Interview and Interrogation and HUMINT (Human Intelligence) at the FBI Academy.  Mr. Hammock provided instruction to New Agents, National Academy students, and thousands of students internationally. He travelled extensively throughout the world.  In 2013, Mr. Hammock was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent in the Atlanta Division where he supervised a squad of agents and support employees until his retirement in late-2018.  As the supervisor, he had oversite of the following programs:  Firearms, FBI National Academy, background investigation, recruiting, polygraph, FBI Citizens Academy, and FBI Field Training.

 

Mr. Hammock was recently nominated by a Georgia Supreme Court Justice to the Hearing Panel of the Judicial Qualifications Commission of Georgia. He is a current board member of the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Former Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  He is the Chair on the Administrative Board of his local church.  Mr. Hammock recently completed a biblical leadership study known as The Master’s Program with law enforcement executives and military members throughout the United States.  Mr. Hammock volunteers with a local charity, Path United, in which he mentors middle school Latino boys.  He is also a Rotarian and enjoys building wheel chair ramps as part of the outreach mission.

 

On a personal level, Mr. Hammock has been married to his wife, Caryl, for 33 years.  He has three grown children and four grandchildren.  His wife is also a volunteer in the community working with the Hall County Animal Shelter, local animal rescues, and animal fosters.
